No Baby Shower, but a Kickback for Bea

Last weekend, we had a little kickback at our house for Bea. Eventhough I’m having a baby of a different sex this time, I knew I didn’t want a shower and I hesitated to even call it a sprinkle. Really, it was just an excuse for us to hang out with our family and friends who we don’t get to see often and won’t get to see for a while.

I tried to keep it pretty low stress for us and just have a good time. So I planned it to be from 12-6 with an open house type of flow. Come whenever you want, leave whenever you’d like. No baby shower games. No scheduled events. Just come, hang out, and socialize. And it couldn’t have turned out better.

For food, I’d planned to serve quiche and yogurt parfaits for brunch at noon, sliders and salad for lunch at 2 and pizza at 4. No one really showed up until about 1:30 which was perfectly fine, but that meant we didn’t need to order the pizza at 4. The quiche and sliders worked out really well.

We did two different quiches from two different recipes and they were both delicious.

There was this one with bacon, gouda, and spinach in a hashbrown crust.

And there was this one with chicken apple sausage, white cheddar and spinach in a traditional pie crust.

Now of course you know I took a little creative license with them but the basic premise was there.

For breakfast drinks, we had a pitcher of orange juice. There was cava for the non-pregs and and sparkling cider for the pregs and other non-drinkers like me.

My husband smoked a beef brisket all morning and sliced it up for some sliders that we put on pretzel buns. He even made his own batch of barbecue sauce to go with them. We served them with salad and chips and they were a hit too.

For lunch drinks, we had drink dispensers of both iced tea and lemonade and bottles of water.

For decorations, we had just some little mason jars of white flowers that I picked up from Trader Joe’s the day before. Easy peasy and so cute.

I grabbed a handful of balloons to put outside to identify our house and that was that.

We had such a good time and it was so good to see everyone and socialize and celebrate our little Bea’s arrival. Eventhough we explicitly said no gifts were necessary, we were still fortunate enough to receive lots of cute little things to hang in her closet and we’re very thankful for them.

Not only was the party a success, but as a special little unexpected surprise, my husband adorned my dining room table with the centerpieces and not it looks jazzier now than it ever does any other time.
