Bea’s Arrival – 1 Week Postpartum

As I sit here in bed nursing Bea, 1 week postpartum, I can’t help but be overwhelmed with joy for our little family.

Yes, this last week has been a challenging adjustment.  Yes, I may have had more than one breakdown. But I think that’s to be expected when you’re adding a newborn to a family that already has a two year old potty training little boy running around.

Speaking of Ace, he’s been awesome! So far, his love for his sister has proven to be just as real, even out of the womb. If she cries, he stops playing and runs over to try to fix whatever ails her. He makes sure she eats and is not too cold. If he doesn’t see her in her rock-n-play, he calls out her name until he spots her. On the rare occasion that she’s awake for a longer stretch he holds conversations with her. Just yesterday, he asked her if she had to go to the potty and told her to not be wet. That was priceless.

And my husband has been an absolute Saint. He already does all the laundry, but we’ve had more of it now with me and Bea at home. So he’s been running up and down the steps between the basement, main floor and second floor doing laundry, cleaning the house, cooking, and completely taking care of Ace. He’s truly the unsung hero in all of this.

I know it will take some time for the dust to settle and to develop our new routines, but so far it’s been a fun 1 week ride.
