Maternity Clothes: My Favorite Pieces

Being pregnant this second time is a whole new ballgame. I mostly feel the same but Bea is in the 60th percentile for growth and Ace hovered around the 2nd percentile. So dressing myself has become quite the challenge. Last time, I mostly wore my regular clothes with a few maternity items sprinkled in, mostly because I worked in a corporate environment at the time and my everyday clothes wouldn’t have been appropriate anyway.

This time around, I bought more maternity clothes, not because of my working environment but because I’m so much bigger! I can’t fit anything. Even some of the maternity stuff is a little snug.

As far as fit and style, this is my criteria:

  • Has to be form flattering, most likely fitted
  • No empire waists with ties to the back
  • Over the bump items must offer plenty of room. I’ve found that a lot of the full panel pants end up being a semi panel that just ends up sliding halfway down my stomach and then rolling the rest of the way. Real comfortable.
  • Under the bump items must have a wide waistband. Skinny waistbands cut into my c-section scar from my first pregnancy. It’s not a big deal when I first get dressed but by midday, I feel like I could just ditch the damn things and walk around naked from the waist down.
  • Shirts have to be long enough to actually cover my stomach. It’s huge and I regularly find myself tugging at the front of my shirt to keep bertha under wraps.

I actually hate most maternity clothes. They’re either too matronly, too shapeless or just plain not my style. I do have a couple favorite pieces though.
