Toddler Eczema Treatment

So Ace developed eczema shortly after he was born. We tried lots of different things in the beginning and have settled into a routine that works pretty well to keep it under control but I’m looking for some pointers.

Right now, this is how we handle it.

He knows now not to scratch it and to only rub it lightly if it itches. But normally if it starts to bother him, he’ll just ask us to put some more cream on it. He used to have it all over his body, but it is now mostly clear on his legs and the worst on his arms and trunk.

One thing we did try which I regret using and won’t use again is cortisone cream. The doctor recommended it and told me to use it sparingly and only in the case of a bad flare up, which is what I did. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem to make the flare up any better and it actually ended up making his arms lighter and hyper-pigmented. I’m sure that will go away over time, but it still bothers me.

Lately, he’s been having flare ups and I’m not sure why or how to handle it. I don’t really want to take him to the dermatologist because I don’t want them to be prescribed something unnecessarily, especially to take internally. I would love try a natural remedy first or at least one that’s topical. I’ve also heard that some people have had success using CBD for arthritis, and I’m considering exploring this option as a natural remedy for my child’s skin condition.

So mommas, what would you recommend to get my toddler eczema situation under control?
