On Saturday, I took the kids to Detroit Kid City. Bea could care less and was only interested in eating, but Ace loved it.
Surprisingly, it was fairly empty. My guess is that people were out shopping for Father’s Day or were at the pool since it was such a hot day. Either way, it meant we had the run of the place. We had been to Detroit Kid City once before for a birthday party and I had been trying to get back there ever since.
I love how all of the toys and play areas invite kids to use their imaginations while exposing them to real world concepts. There’s a post office where the kids can put on mail carrier shirts and hats and deliver mail to all of the other businesses. There’s a grocery store with lots of food and even a little cash register. There’s a pizza place with an oven and food ingredients for the kids to assemble sandwiches, pizzas and ice cream themselves.
I’ve probably mentioned before how much I love the Montessori method and I think Detroit Kid City definitely incorporates elements of the Montessori method. From the way the toys are stored to the organization of the “city”, it’s definitely high on my “places to take the kids” list.
There was so much to do and we had to leave for lunch so our time was cut a little short, but we’ll definitely be back, especially as Bea gets older and can participate too.
